To ensure replication and transfer of project results in Portugal and France, the LIFE 4DOÑANA partners have launched specific actions in areas of intensive agricultural production of the two Countries. Hidrosoph and GIESA will conduct replication & transfer visits to farmers to identify the potential to optimize current irrigation & nutrient systems and assess their interest in the project solutions.
One of the companies selected by Hidrosoph for these actions was BigBerries (https://www.bigberries.pt), a key producer operating mostly in the North of Portugal, very focused on optimum application of resources to achieve high crop yields and reduce operational costs, following the highest standards of environment care. The company, funded by blueberry growers, has got head office in Guarda and farms in different location in Portugal, allowing for fresh blueberry supply from May to September. With 12 farmers and 51 ha installed, mostly in soil, BigBerries produces around 200 tons of fruit annually and has got plans for expansion in the next few years.
